About the project
The Microsoft Open Data Grant Initiative aims at promoting the idea that some data should be freely available to everyone to use and republish as they wish. In this project an Azure cloud-based infrastructure is developed to open the CTO's data. Open Data projects aim at providing a common way to query and update data via REST APIs, enabling the proliferation of publicly available data that are locked in data silos, as free-to-use data. The Cyprus Tourism Organization Open Data Project is the first Open Data Project in Cyprus and aims to provide a way for developers to access data regarding accommodation options, events held throughout the island as well as notable landmarks. The APIs are developed and supported by the Frederick Mobile Devices Laboratory, data was provided by Geomatic Cyprus, with the project funded by Microsoft and powered by the Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Platform.
